You may be unable to authorize your Slack user token via the Preferences page in Thena due to one of the following reasons:
1. Apps Restricted to Slack Marketplace
If you see the error:
“Apologies, but Thena can’t be installed. This app isn’t listed in the Slack Marketplace, so only workspace owners can install it.”
Resolution:
Your Slack workspace owner needs to disable the “Only allow apps from the Slack Marketplace” setting in their Slack settings. They can find instructions on how to do this in Slack’s documentation.
2. Approved Apps Requirement
If you see the error:
“You are not authorized to install Thena on your workspace. Thena is restricted for this workspace. Please reach out to one of your App Managers if you would like additional information or to ask them to install this app.”
Resolution:
Your Slack workspace owner needs to disable the “Require approved apps” feature in Slack.
Alternatively, they can edit the setting to allow users to send app requests to the Slack workspace owner for approval.
Steps for the Slack Workspace Owner to Enable App Requests:
1. Go to App Management Settings in Slack.
2. Click Edit next to ‘Require approved apps’.
3. Check the option ‘Request new apps’ and click Save.
Once the setting is updated, you and your team can authorize your Slack user token in Thena, which will prompt an app request to be sent to the Slack workspace owner for approval.
The workspace owner can then approve the app for the entire workspace, ensuring that other users won’t need to go through the approval process when authorizing their Slack user tokens in Thena.
